History of the journal

The Journal was founded in 2005 in the city of Ekaterinburg in the Russian Federation. Ekaterinburg's unique position as a regional industrial zone, transport hub and scientific research centre on the geographical border of Europe and Asia makes it a natural choice for hosting a platform on which opinions can be shared between researchers, industry and government actors involved in regional development. Growing international interest in the Journal has demonstrated that the presented solutions for regional problems are applicable in other regions and countries. The Journal's first Editor-in-Chief was Aleksandr Tatarkin, Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the founder of the Ural intellectual tradition of regional studies.

Prior to September, 2021, the Journal was issued under the title Economy of Region.
